Evaluations & Therapy
Evaluations
Psychological evaluations measure an individual’s emotional, cognitive, social and behavioral capabilities in order to highlight strengths and limitations, clarify diagnoses, and inform treatment strategies and goals. This is achieved with an emphasis on achieving psychological well-being.
Based on the explanation for referral and the needs of the client, our psychologists utilize appropriate standardized, norm-referenced instruments, direct behavioral observation, interviewing techniques, behavior rating scales, and self-report procedures to properly assesses an individual’s cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning across multiple environments. This is typically completed in a 3 to 5 hour time span and may be fulfilled over a period of 1 or 2 visits.
Our psychologists take the information gathered from a number of measures and conceptualize it into a comprehensive and complete picture of the individual being evaluated. Recommendations are based on all the assessment results and from discussion with professionals, family, and others who may shed light on the individual’s behavior across multiple settings. For instance, in children, information must be obtained from parents and teachers in order for psychological assessment to be considered complete and relevant to the child. Major discrepancies among the findings must be resolved before any diagnostic decisions or recommendations for treatment are made.
Lindeman & Associates psychologists never focus on a single test score or any one measure in isolation. Every individual is perceived as unique with a range of competencies that may be evaluated through a number of methods. Our psychologists evaluate the competencies as well as the limitations of each individual, and report on them in an objective but helpful manner. Information from our evaluations provides a broad view of psychological functioning and is typically completed within 2 to 3 weeks after all information has been collected. Once a hypothesis about an individual and their behavior, personality, and capabilities has been explored, a counseling session is conducted with the client or appropriate parent or guardian (s), to discuss the results of the evaluation, answer questions, and provide referrals for additional treatment and/or therapy.
Evaluations OfferedTherapy
Lindeman & Associates use a number of effective types of psychotherapy to treat children, adolescents and adults. Psychotherapy is a general term for treating mental health problems by talking with one of our psychologists or other mental health clinicians. During psychotherapy, individuals learn about their condition and their moods, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. During psychotherapy, our therapists help people learn how to take control of their life and respond to challenging situations with healthy coping skills. There are many specific types of psychotherapy, each with its own approach. A Lindeman & Associates therapist will consider the type of psychotherapy that is appropriate for an individual's particular situation.
